Chapter 8

Chapter 8, Lesson 1 is about identifying angles. You will learn a little bit about how to name certain types of angles.

Chapter 8, Lesson 2 is a lesson on how to make a protractor. If you make one of these, Mr. Berko will give you a prize.

For the Lesson 2 videos, I was still having a hard time speaking. I decided to change the videos a bit. Part one was an Xtranormal video (this is a free online tool that you can use to create your own videos) and part two was a JPG image that you see below. The Xtranormal video explains how to create the protractor.

Click on the image to enlarge it. You could probably even print it off if you use right click (not for Mac users though!).

Chapter 8, Lesson 3 is the first lesson that Martina recorded entirely. You will learn about how to estimate angle measures using fire towers.

Chapter 8, Lesson 4 is all about measuring angles with a circular protractor. You can print yourself off a flag from Nepal and measure your angles along with the video, if you'd like.

Chapter 8, Lesson 5 is a very weird lesson. It was recorded using my robot friend. I can't guarantee that Miss Kim will be giving you a prize for bringing a protractor, but it never hurts to ask!

Chapter 8, Lesson 6 is about angle relationships in triangles. This is a very important lesson about how the angles in a triangle relate to each other.

Chapter 8, Lesson 7 is similar to lesson 6 in that it talks about relationships between angles in a shape, this time quadrilaterals. Quadrilateral is a fancy word for a shape that has four sides.

Chapter 8, Lesson 8 is about the area of a rectangle. We can measure the area of any flat surface. We usually need to know this if we are putting carpet or flooring down. Remember this formula! It will come in useful later!

Chapter 8, Lesson 9 is lesson that teaches you about perimeter. This is a useful technique for measuring all the edges of a shape. You would need to know this if you wanted to install baseboards in a room or if you wanted to know the distance of a lap around your school property.

Chapter 8, Lesson 10 is about volume. Volume is a term that we use for measuring the space inside a 3D object. It is the amount of water that you can put in a glass, or the space inside a box.

Chapter 8, Lesson 11 is a lesson that ties together many of the concepts that you have learned in Chapter 8.
